Raised in Junkersdorf – discovering, growing, and becoming strong together

Our kindergarten in Junkersdorf is located in the heart of the Stadtwaldviertel – where history, community, and nature converge.

In our Junkersdorf daycare center, children discover new things every day: they explore, play, and grow in a lovingly designed environment that offers both security and freedom. Across approximately 550 square meters of indoor space and a spacious outdoor area, they experience comfort, diversity, and collaborative learning within a vibrant community.

Are you looking for a daycare center that combines security, movement, and diversity? Then you've come to the right place.

Our facility in Junkersdorf offers children a place where they feel safe and welcome – and at the same time have many opportunities to actively explore the world. With large, bright rooms, a versatile garden, and a dedicated team, we create an environment where every child can grow.

We value mindfulness, movement, and creative expression. Music, sustainability, and shared experiences are integral parts of our daily routine. This creates a place where children feel completely at ease – and parents know: My child is in good hands here.

Movement, Music, and Sustainability

Three main areas shape our educational work: movement, music, and sustainability. Through diverse offerings such as early music, dance, or creative projects, children experience the joy of movement and sound. At the same time, they playfully learn to take responsibility for themselves and their environment.

Diverse Spaces for Little and Big Explorers

Spanning approximately 550 square meters, our kindergarten offers bright group rooms, a multi-purpose room, a children’s bistro, and special functional rooms for music and movement. This gives children constant opportunities to try things out – through play, learning, and interaction.

Experience Nature in the Stadtwaldviertel

Our nature-inspired garden invites children daily to explore, play, and move. Whether on the climbing frame, in the tipi, or at the raised garden beds – here, children experience nature with all their senses. Community activities like planting projects or outdoor festivals are simply part of our routine.

Costs & Contributions

At rainbowtrekkers, we attach great importance to transparency – also when it comes to costs. The care of your child is largely publicly funded, and part of the contributions depends on your income. With your membership in the support association, you also contribute to ensuring that we can maintain our high quality standards, fair working conditions and special offers for all children.

The amount of parental contributions is determined by the youth welfare office of your place of residence. It depends on the income and the number of children in your family. For families residing in Cologne, the Youth Welfare Office of the City of Cologne is responsible, outside of Cologne the respective local youth welfare office. You will receive the notification of the contribution amount directly from there.

Our Kitas are only partially publicly funded. The state funds alone are not sufficient to secure our quality level in the long term. Our budget is legally fixed and is composed as follows: 92.2% public funding + 7.8% own contribution (support association, donations). That is why we ask all parents to become members of the support association “Frühe Bildung in der Kita e.V.”.

Your advantages:

  • Your contribution flows 100% directly into your child’s Kita.
  • You support fair working conditions, good equipment and special projects.

Monthly support contributions:

  • €25 for families with basic security benefits (SGB II)
  • €195 regular
  • from €100,000 annual income: freely selectable, at least €195

We charge a monthly food allowance of €75 for your child’s meals. Families with low incomes can apply for a reduction to €1 per lunch via the Education and Participation Package.

Rainbowtrekkers is a non-profit, independent organization – no corporation, no church. We finance our work exclusively through public grants and your contributions. Unlike large welfare associations, we have no additional sources of income such as church tax or foundation funds.

With your support, you help us to continue doing what is close to our hearts: to offer children a loving, safe and inspiring place to grow.

Portrait of Silke Blietschau

Silke Blietschau

Head of rainbowtrekkers Junkersdorf

My name is Silke Blietschau, and I head the rainbowtrekkers daycare center in Junkersdorf. I was born in Minden, East Westphalia, where a large part of my family lives – including my three adult children. Today, I live in Cologne with my partner.

After my initial training as a chemical laboratory assistant, working with my own and other children led me to my true calling. I have now worked in the social and early childhood education sector for over 15 years, holding a degree in social pedagogy. During this time, I have gained diverse experience: as a project manager in early intervention, in language and reading promotion, as a coordinator of a family center, and finally as a daycare director.

It is particularly important to me to be a good listener for all the big and small people in our daycare center. I want to support, motivate, and encourage children, parents, and my team. Together, we create spaces where children can develop individually and live out their urge to explore and discover. A trusting collaboration with parents is the foundation for every child to feel safe, comfortable, and secure with us.

Antje Pillunat

Deputy Director rainbowtrekkers Junkersdorf

I am Antje Pillunat, Deputy Head of rainbowtrekkers Junkersdorf. I have been employed at rainbowtrekkers Junkersdorf since 2017, completed my recognition year as an educator here, and now work as a group leader for the nursery group, the Bumblebees.

I have always lived in the Bergisches Land or the Rhineland. In my free time, I enjoy being active in sports, for example, hiking or doing yoga. I also love spending time with our foster dogs and at musical events.

Before my training as an educator, I studied Linguistics, Pedagogy, and Art & Design, graduating with an M.A. Even during my time as a student, I was very interested in the topic of “multilingualism” and was able to participate in two research projects on children growing up bilingual and multilingual. In recent years, I have also trained as a specialist for U3 children (under 3 years old) and as a children’s yoga teacher.

It is important to me to accompany children during this significant phase of their lives and to continuously support them in their individual development. All families, especially those with multilingual or multicultural backgrounds, should feel comfortable at Rainbowtrekkers and entrust their children to our care with confidence.

I look forward to contributing to the further development of our facility together with the Head of Facility, Silke Blietschau, and to expanding our wealth of experience with insights into the management area!

In our FAQ, we have summarized the most important points regarding registration, placement, and getting started.

If you would like to submit a place request, please use our place request form.

All places are currently taken. We keep a waiting list and will inform you as soon as a place becomes available that matches your criteria.

This depends on several factors – for example, when you would like childcare to start and how a group is then composed.
You have a better chance with some advance planning and flexibility.

We do not offer group tours during regular opening hours in order not to disrupt everyday Kita life. As soon as we have a suitable place in prospect for your child, we would be happy to invite you to a personal meeting and a tour.

We receive many place requests every week. We are currently unable to respond personally to all inquiries immediately – neither by phone nor by email – before it is clear whether a place will become available.
Your data will be placed on our waiting list. As soon as it becomes clear that a place might be a good fit, we will contact you and invite you to get to know us.
If we can offer you a place and you are still interested, we would be happy to welcome you and your child to one of our facilities.

You pay food allowance directly to rainbowtrekkers and an income-dependent parental contribution to the city of Cologne. We also ask you to join our support association so that we can stem the ongoing operating costs. Further details on fees & contributions can be found here.

Since demand is often higher than the available capacity, we decide according to the following criteria (in descending order of importance):

  • Siblings already attend the facility
  • Age appropriateness for the desired group
  • Balanced gender distribution
  • Alignment with our values and concepts
  • Contribution to the social or cultural diversity of the group
  • Families without an existing support network or moving to the city

Children from neighboring towns or foreign families can also apply – you do not necessarily have to live in Cologne.

We do not participate in the Little-Bird procedure, but award our places directly via our place request form. If you send us a place request, you can also send five further place requests to Kitas of other providers via “LittleBird” if you wish.
